In the last year, there’s been a massive rise in the use of medications like Ozempic and Wegovy to support weight loss. At our gym, we’re seeing more and more clients ask about these treatments — and some are already using them with great success.
It’s easy to see why: medications like Ozempic can be a game-changer for people who have struggled with weight for years. Clinical studies show impressive results, with many users losing 10–15% of their body weight. Several of our clients have shared how these tools have helped them finally break through long-standing barriers to better health.
But there’s an important caveat: Ozempic is not a replacement for exercise, healthy eating, or strength training.
One major risk with rapid weight loss is muscle loss — in fact, research shows that up to 40% of the weight lost on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic may be lean muscle mass. That’s not just about aesthetics: muscle is critical for metabolism, strength, energy levels, and long-term health. Losing muscle can actually make it harder to maintain weight loss in the future.
The good news? This risk can be largely offset with proper strength training and nutrition. Resistance exercise, combined with adequate protein intake, can help preserve and even build muscle while weight is coming off.
If you’re considering using Ozempic — or already are — we strongly recommend combining it with a structured strength program and support around sustainable nutrition habits.
We’ve worked closely with clients on these medications, designing customized programs to maximize fat loss, maintain (or improve) muscle mass, and ensure they’re setting themselves up for long-term success — not just short-term results.
